"We are yet to ascertain whether there is any previous case against Bahekar," said senior PI Shivaji Gaikwad of the Rana Pratap Nagar police station. The accused volunteered to show the cops the place where Meshram stayed at Bhujbal Layout. He also purchased liquor to invite Meshram for a drink at the desolate place to dissolve the difference between them. "I don't know what prompted him to take away my son's life," he said. The murder came to light after Bahekar's surrender. After an initial exchange of words, Meshram hurled a stone which hurt Bahekar in the legs.

Nagpur: 24-year-old Naresh Bahekar walked into the Rana Pratap Nagar police station on Friday and told the cops that he murdered his childhood by stabbing him repeatedly with a vegetable cutter.Naresh, a driver by profession, said he also smashed his friend Kiran Meshram's face and head with a piece of broken concrete slab at an abandoned NIT plot behind a temple at Trimurti Nagar shortly before Friday midnight.Meshram, who worked as a helper in trucks, had a tiff with Bahekar leading to the murder. The Rana Pratap Nagar police produced Bahekar him before the magistrate court on Saturday and got his custody till April 26. One of the arguments that the cops raised before the court while seeking his custody was to know whether Bahekar had someone else as an accomplice while murdering the Meshram.Meshram's father Sadashiv said that he had migrated from Gondia to the city around 20 years ago looking for better opportunities. Bahekar's family too had come to the city from Gondia. The two families had been staying in the vicinity since long."I brought my son to the city, while the rest of the family remained in Gondia. On Friday, my son left home saying that he is going out to bring 'kharra' after having food, while I retired to bed. I woke up when the cops landed at my place informing that I need to identify my son's body," he said.Sadashiv, who works as a labourer, said that Bahekar had grown up playing with his son. "I don't know what prompted him to take away my son's life," he said. The murder came to light after Bahekar's surrender. The accused volunteered to show the cops the place where Meshram stayed at Bhujbal Layout. Bahekar also told Meshram's father about his heinous act.Police said the motive behind the murder was a heated argument earlier in the day between the friends. The duo had a fight in the evening which was nothing uncommon between them. After an initial exchange of words, Meshram hurled a stone which hurt Bahekar in the legs. Similar exchanges had also ensued between them just before the murder.Police said the murder was well-planned. Bahekar left his home with the vegetable cutter carrying it under the shirt. He also purchased liquor to invite Meshram for a drink at the desolate place to dissolve the difference between them."Both were under the influence of alcohol when the fight between them escalated. Bahekar started stabbing Meshram until he collapsed. It was when Meshram was on the ground that Bahekar brought a piece of concrete slab before smashing the victim's head and face," said a police official.Sources said Bahekar first returned home before turning up at the police station. "We are yet to ascertain whether there is any previous case against Bahekar," said senior PI Shivaji Gaikwad of the Rana Pratap Nagar police station.
