NAGPUR: The registry of Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court (HC) has said that it had issued an arrest warrant against controversial lawyer Satish Uke , as he failed to appear in any proceeding despite repeated warnings.Even after the court issuing a bailable warrant against him in the second suo motu contempt petition (No2/2017), he failed to surrender. During the last hearing, the police commissioner was told to ensure that warrant is served to contemnor before deadline. He was also slapped Rs10,000 fine. On February 23, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him.After the registry's reply to the court, the judges adjourned the hearing till April 26.Earlier, the court was informed that the protection granted to Uke stood cancelled after he failed to turn up and deposit Rs4.12 lakh imposed on him with the registry. The judges then pointed out that unless the warrant is executed, they can't proceed. Accordingly, the registry issued arrest warrant against the lawyer.Uke achieved a dubious distinction of becoming the first lawyer in the city's history to be convicted for contempt of court. It was also the first case in Nagpur court's history where proceedings are video recorded.Fed up with his perennial habit of making reckless allegations against sitting judges and lawyers as well as his delaying tactics, the judges slapped another suo motu contempt on Uke on February 22, asking him to deposit Rs2 lakh towards as cash security with the registry.In earlier suo motu contempt, he was told to deposit cash security of similar amount by the same court.
