ICON 17.0 tech fest set to nurture creativity

Nagpur: The Electronics Telecommunication and Electronics Engineering branch of Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE), in association with The Times of India, are all set to host their annual national-level technical fest 'ICON 17.0' on the college premises at Wanadongri on August 18 and 19.This year, the festival will be held on a bigger scale with 16 interesting events and more than 2,500 engineering students from across the region expected to participate in it.The theme this year is 'Carnival' and the festival will be conducted under the guidance of principal UP Waghe, heads of department PL Zade, AS Khobragade and teacher coordinators KG Pande and VD Bondre.Arvind Kumar, deputy centre head, Tata Consultancy Services, Nagpur, will be the chief guest at the inaugural function to be held at EE Conference Hall, on Friday at 9.30am. Principal UP Waghe will be the guest of honour.ICON is open to even school students. There will be a lot of variety, from technical to non-technical events to workshops and fun games. It will be a major learning ground for students who wish to seek knowledge, explore different concepts and test their abilities practically.Students will also get a platform to showcase their expertise and grow socially by interacting with like-minded people.The highlight will be 'Talent Search' round which will encourage performing arts and give budding artistes chance to exhibit and upgrade their skills.A member from the organizing committee and third year student, Archisa Singh, said, "ICON stands for Innovation, Creativity and Opportunity Nationwide. There will be a lot of takeaways as each session has been planned carefully to leave a major impact on students. Even young whizz kids can enrol under the segment named 'Techkiddos' where they can present their science model and ideas to showcase how innovatively they utilize scientific knowledge."Another event 'Internet-Quest' is a competition based on the ability to surf the web to find appropriate answers in restricted time, 'Knowledge Knockout' is a general knowledge quiz and there will also be a series of intense 'Debates'.Keeping in mind the adventure quotient, the students have come up with 'Tech Roadies' where participants will deal with technical challenges. Games like Futsal and Chess will also be major attractions, said Singh.A workshop on a trending software 'MATLAB' will be conducted by delegates from IIT-Kharagpur, while knowledge about PCB designing and programming can be gained at workshops 'Matrix' and 'Complete to Keil (C2K)'.An event 'Wallstreet' will encourage entrepreneurship skills in students by allowing use of virtual money to buy and sell shares.
