Nagpur: It’s a tragedy that on one hand the ‘Education for All Movement’ (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) is at its peak while on the other hand the NMC schools are closing down. No effort is being made to restart the closed school but instead the administration appears to ready to take up less important projects of government. This is very clear from the state of NMC’s Jalalkheda School which has closed down and now there the NMC is planning to prepare a skating rink. Just beside, the closed school is the Gaushala beautifying the surrounding place. Many NMC schools have closed down because of rising standard of education and competition. The NMC administration appears to be serious about education only on papers. The NMC has been regularly getting funds from the State and Centre but the same is not put to proper use. In the NMC Schools only the poor children who are capable of studying on their own can survive. Very few children of the NMC employees are found studying in these schools.The NMC schools like the one at Gaddigodam or Jalalkheda which have closed down are in possession of encroachers or the people around are spoiling them. The school area is being used by them as open toilet. It is difficult to pass from there as the surrounding is full, of bad odour. It may be mentioned that the cattle are tied in the Gaddigodam NMC School and at Jalalkheda slowly the gaushala is spreading. It is learnt that a skating rink is coming up at Jalalkheda. The people coming to skating rink, besides learning skating will also carry various diseases from here. The NMC has not been taking any step to curb the increasing gaushala in the city. Though the cattle are tied before the Jalalkheda police station yet no action is being taken against them.
