Bodies of man, 2 sons recovered

Nashik: The state disaster response force (SDRF) Dhule unit, along with volunteers of the district disaster management office (DDMO) took out the bodies of a man and his two sons who were washed away in the ‘Express Canal’ on Monday. The canal carries water from Nandurmadhmeshwar to parts of Gangapur taluka.“The mission was completed by 12.25pm. The victims have been identified as Somnath Gite (40) of Mahalkheda village of Yeola taluka and his sons Satyam (14) and Kartik (12).The DDMO had sought the assistance of the SDRF in finding the bodies of the victims.

Nashik: The state disaster response force (SDRF) Dhule unit, along with volunteers of the district disaster management office (DDMO) took out the bodies of a man and his two sons who were washed away in the ‘Express Canal’ on Monday. The canal carries water from Nandurmadhmeshwar to parts of Gangapur taluka.“The mission was completed by 12.25pm. The bodies were found about 1km km downstream of the canal from the incident site,” said Ramdas Khedkar, resident deputy collector of Nashik and also chief officer of the district disaster management authority.The three were washed away around 3pm on Monday, when they were drawing water for washing a pump used for spraying insecticide on onion plants. The victims have been identified as Somnath Gite (40) of Mahalkheda village of Yeola taluka and his sons Satyam (14) and Kartik (12).The DDMO had sought the assistance of the SDRF in finding the bodies of the victims. The SDRF team reached the spot at 6am. The DDMO team also rushed to the spot in the morning. With rescue boats, life jackets and life buoys the teams started their operations.The canal was flowing in full force when the incident happened. Satyam, who was getting water in a bucket fell into the canal. His brother Kartik jumped into the canal to save him but he was also pulled down by the current. Immediately their father jumped into the water to save the children, but they never came out.The water supply into the 110-km-long canal was was cut immediately as a result of which the water level was low, helping the rescue teams.
