The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has set up a separate stall to provide the experience of wine stomping through a digital game. The grape crushing season began in January-end at the wineries in Nashik and will continue till mid-April. A popular ritual during this time is grape-stomping, which involves barefoot participants stomping on grapes to release their juices and begin fermentation.Bringing that experience to the industrial expo, the MIDC has set up an interactive grape-stomping zone here. Visitors have to stomp hard to see wine glasses getting filled. As hard as they stomp, the glass is filled with wine. There are two barrels for stomping and two visitors may stomp at a time. The visitor, who fills the glass with wine on digital screen is the winner. “I was very curious to know about wine. Although it was digital game, it gave the feel of actual stomping of grapes. It was really a great experience. I also tasted wine at a wine stall,” said Swapnil Kapadnis, a visitor.Nashik is known as the country’s wine capital and has emerged as a wine tourism hub.
