Practice run for GHS Marathon a major draw

Nashik: A practice run was held on Saturday for the ‘GHS Run – Run for a Better Tomorrow 2018 which will be held on March 4. It is the first marathon of Nashik Road.The unveiling of the new finisher’s medal was also done by district collector B Radhakrishnan on the occasion.The practice run for GHS Run 2018 was held for 3km, 5km and 8km categories. Around 100 runners, including the collector, participated in the run.Participants gathered at 6.30 am near Golden Horizon School that had organised the event. After the warm-up session, the run was flagged off at 7am from the school which was also the run’s end point.The GHS Run will be the first run of its kind in the Nashik Road, Indira Nagar,Upnagar and Nashik-Pune Road areas.Runners of all age groups, Rotarians, organising team members and school staff members participated in the practice run.Noting that the ‘City of Marathons’ has all the events concentrated in the city area, this run is being organised for Nashik Road with special concession to school students.The event aims at promoting marathons in this part of the city and also encourage runners.Some of the leading athletes for the run are Anirudh Athani – a 100-km gold medalist in Pune Ultramarathon and a certified marathon trainer, Shweta Bhide – a full marathon runner, Ashwini Deore —a police constable from Nashik Road and winner of various state and national-level marathons, Jayashri Bhusare — a national refree for tug-of-war and sports teacher of Golden Horizon School, Adiba Khan — the youngest Nashikite to scale Kalsubai peak among others.The marathon will have all the things necessary on route and at the venue with water station, energy drinks and medical support.
