Crime branch nabs thief, seizes phones worth Rs 75,000

Nashik: The city police on Monday arrested a man who allegedly used to steal mobile phones of train and bus passengers. During interrogation, Turkane admitted to stealing phones from the said places. Cases about the theft are registered with the Nashik Road railway police station and Sarkarwada police station.The suspect has been handed over to the Sarkarwada police for further investigation, said crime branch officials. Police also recovered five mobile phones worth Rs 75,000 from him.The suspect is identified as Anil Ramdas Turkane who is hailing from Lakhganga in Aurangabad district and is staying at Shantinagar in Ambad.The crime branch officers said following instructions from senior officers they were in search of criminals who were stealing mobile phones of bus passengers.On Monday, they received a tip that Turkane, who stole mobile phones from rail passengers at Nashik Road railway station and bus passengers at Mela bus stand, was coming to the Thakkar Bazaar area to sell the phones.Subsequently, inspector Ananda Wagh laid a trap and arrested Turkane.
