Man on bail arrested for murder bid

Nashik: A suspect in an attempt to murder case registered four months ago was arrested by city police on Tuesday.The suspect — Tukaram Chothwe — was wanted in a case of attempt to murder in the Panchavati area in December 2017. But, Chothwe has been untraceable since the crime was committed.On Tuesday, police got a tip-off that Chothwe was about to commit another crime at the Gadage Maharaj bridge in Panchavati. Chothwe and a few others had attacked a Chinese food stall owner Roshan Katare and another person Vinod Thakre with sharp weapons in a bid to kill them, when the food stall owner refused to pay them Rs 4,000 extortion money. While the district and sessions court had awarded him life sentence in the case, Chothwe appealed against the verdict in the Bombay high court and secured bail.The police said that in view of Chothwe’s tendency to commit serious crimes, they have decided to submit a proposal in the high court to cancel his bail. Inspector Ananda Wagh of crime branch unit 1, laid a trap in the area and arrested Chothwe, a resident of Krantinagar on Makhmalabad Road of Panchavati and another person identified as Nilesh Khandve, also a Makhmalabad Road resident.Police seized a country-made pistol worth Rs 30,000, two live cartridges worth Rs 1,000 and a bike worth Rs 50,000 from them.Police said Chothwe had gunned down a person named Pravin alias Sameer Suresh Hande in March 2014 in the Panchavati area over a feud.
