NASHIK: Collector of Nashik Radhakrishnan B , taking review of preparations for kharif season directed the agriculture officers to register cases against all the people who were engaged in selling substandard seeds to the farmers.Review meeting of preparations for Kharif was held at Nashik district collectorate in which district superintendent of agriculture, TN Jagtap, District Agriculture Officer Hemant Kale, officers of the Maharashtra Water Resources Department and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited were also present.“While reviewing the preparations, Collector (Radhakrishnan B) has clearly pointed out that the agriculture office should keep close watch on the quality of seeds being sold to the farmers during the season. If there is an indication of the substandard delivery of seeds, there are standing instructions that these should be checked. And if there is evidence that the seeds are of substandard quality, the cases should be registered against all such centres,” a senior officer from agriculture department, said.This apart the collector has also appealed to all the offices to plan and come up with programmes and ideas that will increase the farmers’ income.“There are various schemes that government has announced for increasing the income of the farmers. The collector said that the agriculture officers should take these schemes to all the farmers, speak to them, ensure the beneficiaries get all the benefits of the scheme,” he added.He also has exhorted the officers to ensure the right technology, quality products are presented for the farmers.Narendra Gite, Zilla Parishad, chief executive officer, Nashik said that sale of taluka-wise teams have been made to figure out sales of substandard seeds to the farmers. These squads will randomly inspect the seeds and take action if necessary, Gite added.
