3 arrested for smuggling MD drug worth Rs 5 Lakh

NASHIK: City police arrested three persons for smuggling mephedrone ( MD ), also known as meow meow drug, worth Rs 5.3 lakh near the Pathardi Phata area along the Mumbai-Agra highway.The trio were produced before a city court that has remanded them in police custody till Saturday. We will also find whether the three suspects were bringing this drug to Nashik routinely. Though the investigation process, we will try to find where the drug was sourced from and where it was to be delivered. Apart from the drug, the police also seized four cellphones from the trio and the SUV worth Rs 10 lakh.Commissioner of police Ravinder Kumar Singal said, "The drug was being brought in from Mumbai for delivery in Nashik. "We will also find whether similar cases are registered against the suspects in other parts of the state or country," the CP added.

The three arrested suspects are Ranjit More (32), a resident of Pathardi Phata, Pankaj Dunde (31), a resident of Adgaon and Nitin Malode (32), also an Adgaon resident.Police inspector Ananda Wagh of the crime branch unit 1 got a tip-off that some contraband substance was likely to be brought into the city through a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) on the road towards Pathardi village near Pathardi Phata.As soon as the crime branch got the information at 12.05am on Wednesday, they rushed to spot. At 1.45 am, the SUV arrived at the spot. The police team waiting for the vehicle signaled the SUV driver to stop. Though the driver tried to escape, he was intercepted near a restaurant on the road towards Pathardi village.On frisking the three persons in the SUV, the police found the drug weighing 265g in three plastic bags. Apart from the drug, the police also seized four cellphones from the trio and the SUV worth Rs 10 lakh.Commissioner of police Ravinder Kumar Singal said, "The drug was being brought in from Mumbai for delivery in Nashik. Though the investigation process, we will try to find where the drug was sourced from and where it was to be delivered. We will also find whether the three suspects were bringing this drug to Nashik routinely."Singal said of the three suspects Dunde and Malode are seasoned criminals. They have cases of dacoity registered against them in 2012. "We will also find whether similar cases are registered against the suspects in other parts of the state or country," the CP added.
