On May 26, police had issued a notification saying that a stretch of this road, ie, from Ashok Stambh to Trimbak Naka would be closed for traffic, while the other side of the road, ie, from Trimbak Naka to Ashok Stambh, will be converted into a two-way road.

The exercise began around 11am but had to be stopped by noon in view of the chaos that resulted from the action.The traffic police had deployed nearly 30 personnel to manage the traffic.Traffic jam was witnessed not only at the CBS junction but also at Trimbak Naka, with vehicles found stranded till the Gadkari chowk. Closing this stretch does not seem feasible as of now and we would submit a report about the same to the concerned departments.”Deore further said they would be checking the other options to facilitate the smart road construction.The traffic police said that they have been insisting to take up the construction work in phases. Once the stretch from Meher signal to CBS is completed, construction of the remaining part from CBS to Trimbak signal can be taken up.Vehicular traffic is at its worst on the road opposite the district collectorate which has been converted into a two-way road.
