Smart City: Officials to work on more options for traffic diversion

Nashik: Smart City officials are working out on different options for diversion of traffic from Central Bus Stand to Trimbak Naka — the road patch part of Smart Road pilot project.This comes in wake of a one-hour trial conducted by the traffic police on Wednesday that called off the diversion owing to chaos. The other side of the road that is from Trimbak Naka to Ashok Stambh has been divided with the help of bollards to make it two-lane for traffic to pass.On Wednesday, the city traffic police conducted a trial on traffic diversion on the stretch between CBS to Trimbak Naka. We will work out on a solution to reduce the load,” an official of the Smart City cell said.He added that whenever a developmental project is undertaken there will be some inconvenience when the work is underway.“Since ours is a company, we will have to consult everyone about the options for traffic diversion. We are exploring other options and will arrive at solution soon,” the official said. We purposely took up middle stretch first so that there is lesser inconvenience to the people.

The 1.1-km stretch from Ashok Stambh to Modak Point (Trimbakeshwar Naka) is being developed as Smart Road a pilot-project.This is one of the busiest roads of the city with number of educational institutes, district court, district collector’s office, central bus stand, shops, restaurants, hotels, offices, banks, office of chief conservator of forests, among others.The road from Ashok Stambh to Trimbak Naka is closed for the traffic where the work for Smart Road would begin. The other side of the road that is from Trimbak Naka to Ashok Stambh has been divided with the help of bollards to make it two-lane for traffic to pass.On Wednesday, the city traffic police conducted a trial on traffic diversion on the stretch between CBS to Trimbak Naka. But they had to wrap it up in less than an hour due to the chaos.Officials of Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd said they would go ahead with the work to create Smart Road on that stretch and would explore other options with the traffic police for diversion.“We are working on more solutions to make things better. We purposely took up middle stretch first so that there is lesser inconvenience to the people. We will work out on a solution to reduce the load,” an official of the Smart City cell said.He added that whenever a developmental project is undertaken there will be some inconvenience when the work is underway.“Since ours is a company, we will have to consult everyone about the options for traffic diversion. We cannot overburden other roads. We are exploring other options and will arrive at solution soon,” the official said.
