“When the cap was up to 5,000 members, very few of the senior doctors applied for the course. When the course was launched two years back, only first 5,000 registered homoeopaths were allowed to apply for it.The successful completion of the course would allow the homeopaths to prescribe allopathic medicines. The university has 1,200 seats in 24 government medical colleges across the state for homeopaths to undergo the certificate course. The selection of the applicants would be done purely on seniority basis.“This year, candidates whose registration numbers are from 1 to 40,000 can apply for the course. However, juniors having registration numbers above 40,000 are more interested in getting this certification,” said a city doctor, whose registration number is in the range of 44,000.

CLEARED SKHERNashik: Practicing homoeopaths in Maharashtra, who want to take up the certificate course for prescribing allopathic medicines, are set to get a major opportunity from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).On Thursday, the state’s health varsity announced that practicing homoeopaths, who have their Maharashtra Homoeopathic Council (MHC) registration numbers from 1 to 40,000, can apply for the admissions for the modern pharmacology course for the year 2018-19.The MHC has given its nod to include more doctors for this course. It’s a full-time course.University officials are optimistic that they will get good response this year since the council has allowed applications from large number of homeopaths. The selection of the applicants would be done purely on seniority basis.“This year, candidates whose registration numbers are from 1 to 40,000 can apply for the course. June 30 is the last date to submit online applications. Admissions will be given as per the seniority of the registration numbers in the register given by the MHC, Mumbai,” said MUHD registrar K D Chavan. As per the schedule announced by the MUHS, first selection list of the candidates will be declared on July 12. The candidate can select up to 24 government medical colleges where 50 seats each are available. The last date of joining college is August 3. The certificate course is exclusively for Maharashtra-based homoepathic doctors.According to a senior member of MHC, the course received lame response as the council had allowed only first 5000 registered homoeopathic practitioners to apply for the course earlier. “The MUHS administration had demanded inclusion of more doctors for this course. But, the MHC aims to cover senior and experienced doctors under this certification course. This year, the cap has been increased up to first 40,000 registrations,” said the member. However, young homoeopathic practitioners have expected that the MHC should increase the cap at least up to first 50,000 members. “When the cap was up to 5,000 members, very few of the senior doctors applied for the course. Even today, many seniors are least interested in this. However, juniors having registration numbers above 40,000 are more interested in getting this certification,” said a city doctor, whose registration number is in the range of 44,000.
