Nashik: Rain on Wednesday afternoon brought misery to students from three schools on the road in front of CBS. The road has been closed for the ongoing Smart Road project. After a 30 minute shower, the alternate road that has been made for the convenience of students turned muddy. The hapless students had to walk with thick layers of mud stuck to their shoes. Students had to clean their shoes when they reached MG Road. The crowd added into to traffic chaos on the road.Teachers, who had parked their vehicles inside the school premises had a tough time taking their two-wheelers out. Now, the schools’ management are worried since the alternate road is bound to become inaccessible once there is heavy downpour over the next two months. They have reiterated their demand to construct a proper alternative way for students to reach school.“An alternate route should have been properly planned considering the possibility of rain. Yesterday, students struggled to find a way out from school. The approach road should be properly constructed before heavy rain descends,” said Prakash Vaishampayan, executive president of the New Education Society that runs D D Bytco High School and Junior college situated on the road.Students and teachers from Government Girls School, and Vaishampayan Night School also faced problems after the rain. There are more than 4,500 students studying in these three schools. The condition for students from night school is worse as the alternate road has no street lights. According to teachers, attendance on Thursday was remarkably low after Wednesday’s situation.“The situation is going to get worse in the coming days with more rain approaching. Our demand is to repair the makeshift approach road and make it usable during rain,” said Ravindra Kadam, senior teacher from Bytco High School.According to Kadam, an alternate entry gate can be made if NMC permits access to Nashik Gymkhana ground.“The compound wall of our school needs to be dismantled to construct this approach road. Civic administration should take a lead to ensure safety of students,” said Kadam.
