“We have raised only 20% of the damaged poles and have successfully reinstated power supply to as many as 47,521 consumers that is around 72%. This year as many as 3,811 high tension and low tension electricity poles across the two districts gave way to gusty winds bringing down the network and affecting power supply,” a senior official of Nashik Zone MSEDCL said. The MSEDCL, however, has been able to erect only 767 electricity poles and it will take long time before the entire network is successfully restored. NASHIK: The failure in power infrastructure caused due to heavy rain since June 1 across Nashik zone, comprising Nashik and Ahmednagar districts, affected as many as 66,010 consumers of which power is yet to be restored for a total of 18,489 patrons. The pre-monsoon rainfall that lashed parts of Nashik and Ahmednagar districts uprooted poles of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) providing electricity in the two districts. The MSEDCL is still struggling to restore normalcy, especially in rural areas and more so in the remote villages for lack of access, material, time and manpower.“Every year the pre-monsoon rainfall along with strong winds and thunderstorm affect the state power utility’s network that is above the ground. The remaining 28% are yet to get the proper power supply,” the official added. The power networks in densely populated urban and semi-urban areas, villages have been restored on priority basis as there were larger numbers of consumers fed by these units. The works in the areas where consumers are scattered is taking time as the MSEDCL will slowly focus their attention on the same. The official also pointed out that out of the 28% of the consumers a large number of them have either been given power supply temporarily or even partial supply has been made available that which means the power supply could be available only during the night hours instead of entire day, among others.“At some places numbers of poles in a line have gone down, while at many other places the trees have fallen on them,” the official added. As many as 177 electricity poles have not been repaired for more than 16 days while the numbers of electricity poles not repaired in 15 days since damaged is 2,867.
