IMD forecasts heavy rain for north Maharashtra Nashik still dry

Areas near Mumbai will also continue to receive moderate to heavy rain over many parts. NASHIK: Though the monsoon has been vigorous over most parts of the state in the last two days, Nashik has remained mostly dry.On Saturday, the city received just 3.7mm rain till 5.30 pm. According to the figures from the disaster management cell of the district collector's office, Igatpuri received 83mm rain while Trimbakeshwar received 36mm rain on July 7.Till date, Igatpuri has received 325mm rain in July against its monthly average of 1340mm. With three more weeks to go in July, IMD expects the rainfall activity to slowly gain momentum in the upcoming weeks. Therefore, we expect rainfall activity to continue with moderate to heavy rain along with few extremely heavy showers," said R B Mankar, senior official from Nashik's IMD observatory.As per private weather forecast website Skymet, rainfall activity will increase over Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.

Though overcast conditions prevailed in the city since the past two days, rains have remained scanty.India Meteorology Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for North Maharashtra in the next three days - including Nashik district.IMD Mumbai issued 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' warning at isolated places in the district of Jalgaon for July 8, 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' likely at isolated places in the districts of Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar and Nashik for July 9 and moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nashik district on July 10.With the city receiving only 3.7 mm rain on Saturday, the total rainfall figure for July stands at 15.2mm. Last year, the city received 153mm rainfall in the first week of July, which indicates this year's rain is not even 10% of what the city received last year during the same period.While Nashik continues to wait for rain, catchment areas of dams received moderate rainfall in the last two days. According to the figures from the disaster management cell of the district collector's office, Igatpuri received 83mm rain while Trimbakeshwar received 36mm rain on July 7.Till date, Igatpuri has received 325mm rain in July against its monthly average of 1340mm. Trimbakeshwar has received 125mm rainfall against its average 936.50 mm. With three more weeks to go in July, IMD expects the rainfall activity to slowly gain momentum in the upcoming weeks."Currently, a cyclonic circulation lies over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas. Another cyclonic circulation is seen over Marathwada in the higher levels. An off-shore one is running from South Gujarat coast to Kerala coast across Maharashtra coast. Therefore, we expect rainfall activity to continue with moderate to heavy rain along with few extremely heavy showers," said R B Mankar, senior official from Nashik's IMD observatory.As per private weather forecast website Skymet, rainfall activity will increase over Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra in the next 24 hours. Areas near Mumbai will also continue to receive moderate to heavy rain over many parts. Rainfall is likely to continue for another 24-48 hours.
