The production cost of milk is around Rs 36 per litre. As a result, the farmers are incurring losses,” said Hansraj Wadghule of the Swabhimani Shetakari Sanghatna.“The government has already assured to introduce an MSP of Rs 27 per litres. But it is yet to implement it. As a result, we are on a strike from Monday,” he said.Nashik city needs 2 lakh litres of milk a day. This includes 70,000 litres of fresh milk supplied by the cowsheds to consumers, hotels and restaurants. The remaining 1.30 lakh litres processed milk are supplied from districts such as Ahmednagar, Jalgaon and Shahapur in Thane district in the form of packaged milk.Dairy sources said the city gets around 90% of the total processed milk from Ahmedngar district.
