Nashik-based pharmaceutical company recently organised an awareness session on various topics ranging from gender equality, sexuality and many more for students and their parents at a city-based hotel. The session titled 'Parenting of Adolescents-need of the day' saw talks delivered by Dr. Atul Kanikar, a child and adolescent care pediatrician. The session included points such as gender equality, social media addiction, drug abuse, road safety, eating disorders, sexuality, how teenagers should deal with stress, scholastic worsening, etc. As the program went on, an open discussion between the doctor, parents and children was also held. Various other cases of teenagers suffering from depression, sexual assault, suicidal tendencies, domestic violence etc. were also discussed and parents were advised to have an open communication with their children more often. Dr Kanikar explained that the time span of adolescents in the life of every human being is very crucial, sensitive and important. It’s a stormy period as the body undergoes various physical, psychological and emotional changes and it is important for every parent to handle this phase of their child with utmost care, sensitivity and love.
