Four injured as wall of commercial complex collapses on illegal shed

NASHIK: An under-construction wall collapsed on the shed of an unauthorised marriage hall on Monday afternoon, leaving four injured. The tenth-day rituals were in progress when the wall collapsed, bringing down the shed at Dasak Chowk on Jail Road, Nashik Road collapsed.The wall of the commercial complex at Dasak Chowk fell on the shed of Sadguru Mangal Karyalay (marriage hall). The beam of the compound wall also collapsed.Divisional officer of Nashik Road, Somnath Wadekar, who went to the spot on learning of the wall collapse, said, "It was illegal construction. "It is an unauthorised hall. Four persons were injured and are hospitalised, including the owner of the building, who is in Apollo Hospital.

The tenth-day rituals were in progress when the wall collapsed, bringing down the shed at Dasak Chowk on Jail Road, Nashik Road collapsed.The wall of the commercial complex at Dasak Chowk fell on the shed of Sadguru Mangal Karyalay (marriage hall). The owner of the building, Rajendra Derle, is among the four injured. The marriage hall was constructed in parking space that was covered up with a shed.Residents of Sahara Darshan who helped the injured said that they had complained to NMC a number of times about the unauthorised hall, which has been operating for about 10 years. They said the wall of the hall was constructed on their space, blocking the passage for garbage vans and making it impossible for a fire tender to reach the area."Gurukripa commercial complex has been in existence for 15 years. The road in front has shops. There is a huge parking space at the back. The owner constructed Sadguru Hall illegally. Weddings, birthdays, and other programmes were held here. More floors were being added to this building," fire department officials said.Brickwork was underway at the site. On Monday afternoon, the wall came crashing down on four persons. The beam of the compound wall also collapsed.Divisional officer of Nashik Road, Somnath Wadekar, who went to the spot on learning of the wall collapse, said, "It was illegal construction. A shed was put up in the side margin, which is against the law. Some brick construction work was also ongoing. Four persons were injured and are hospitalised, including the owner of the building, who is in Apollo Hospital."He said it was sheer good fortune that the tenth day rituals had just concluded and the gathering had begun to disperse from the area and sit for lunch when the collapse occurred. "It is an unauthorised hall. They must have definitely got a notice from NMC about side margin encroachment. They also have an office of 12 sq ft by 8 sq ft in Ashwin Colony on Jai Bhavani Road," Wadekar said.
