NASHIK: A 70-year-old woman, riding pillion with her son on a bike, met with a tragic death when she was run over by a truck in the Nashik Road area on Monday morning. Police registered a case of death by negligence against the unidentified truck driver.Laxmibai Dattatray Walve, resident of Samangaon Road, Gadekar Mala Bharat Nagar , Nashik Road, had a toothache on Sunday morning and her son Sanjay Walve had taken her to hospital. The two were returning from visiting the dentist at around 11.30 am. While Sanjay Walve was riding on the flyover, a truck driver attempting to overtake another vehicle from the wrong side dashed into Walve's bike. Nashik Road police said Sanjay Walve was tossed on the other side of the road by the impact of the hit. His mother Laxmibai Walve fell towards the truck, and was crushed under the rear wheels. She died on the spot.Traffic on the flyover came to a standstill for some time after the accident. Police said Sanjay Walve escaped with minor bruises. The truck driver managed to escape. The truck was going towards Pune, loaded with chemical fertilizers.The body was taken to Gangapadali, her native village, for the funeral.
