Gopikrishna memorial festival to mark its silver jubilee this year

Nashik: Nataraja Pandit Gopi Krishna cultural festival, which has become the identity of Nashik’s cultural scene for last 25 years, is scheduled to be held at Parshuram Saikhedkar hall from August 22 onwards.This year’s edition of the three-day cultural festival will feature the performances by dancers of classical, folk as well as modern genres and vocalists and instrumentalists from across the country.Kirti Kala Mandir, a leading institute dedicated to training of Kathak, will organize this festival for 25th time in Nashik. The performances will be held at 6:30 pm every day from Augsut 22 to 24.The inaugural performance will be given by Aditi Nadgauda Panse from Nashik and Vishal Krishna from Banaras. Together, they will present ‘The flux of rhythm’, a show dedicated to different hues of Kathak.On August 23, Guru Savita Godbole from Indore will present ‘The colours of connaissance’. The second performance of the day will be ‘Jukebox – Kathak beyond tradition’, a unique show choreographed by Ashwini Kalsekar. The concluding day will see ‘The Elixir of Mélange’ a performance by Guru Rekha Nadgauda, director of Kirti Kala Mandir.According to Rekha Nadgauda, the silver jubilee year of the Gopikrishna dance fest was memorable for all classical dance lovers in Nashik.“Since it was our 25th year, we started a unique series of events named ‘Nrutyanushthan’ (An establishment of dance) in September 2017. As part of this, two solo Kathak performances were held every month. Aim was to revive the most classic form of Kathak – the solo performance,” she said. The present festival will be the conclusion of the Nrutyanushthan series.
