Release of water from Gangapur Dam has caused the level of River Godavari to rise significantly. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Chandori village, 25 km from Nashik, which is a well-marked flood zone area, as water was released from several dams. The NDRF team comprising commandant and four officials of inspector and sub-inspector rank, along with 40 jawans arrived in the city on Tuesday and started survey of the flood zone areas of Niphad, Saikheda, Chandori and the adjoining region. The team will initially stay here for a period of 15 days and provide guidance to villagers on rescue operations in case this becomes necessary.A senior official in the Nashik district disaster management cell told TOI that officials from various departments would also get primary training from NDRF men about how to rescue and move villagers to safer places in case of flooding.Meanwhile on August 21, the city received 22.5 mm rain, taking the total amount of rainfall received this season beyond the 500 mm mark. With 517.20 mm rain this year, the city has already received 84.20% of its annual rain quota of 614.20 mm.
