Niphad farmer cheated of Rs 45 crore by Mumbai firm

Nashik: Four Mumbai-based people have allegedly cheated a farmer from Pimpalgaon to the tune of Rs 4.61 crore between 2014 and 2018. Patil also took agricultural goods from other farmers from around Pimpalgaon and sent it to Srinathji Foods Agro Pvt Ltd.According to the complainant, the directors of the firm cheated him of Rs 4.61 crore. “Soon a team will be sent to Mumbai to trace the concerned suspect involved in the cheating case,” he said.A large number of farmers from Nashik have reportedly got cheated recently. “They have an office at Kakad Niketan building in Sion, Koliwada, Mumbai, bearing the name Srinathji Foods Agro Pvt Ltd,” he said.Subsequently, as per the deal, Patil started sending his produce to them. Last month the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city arrested a Sri Lankan resident who was wanted in a cheating case registered with the Adgaon police in August 2017.

The farmer has registered a complaint with the Pimpalgaon police station.Police said that complainant Ajit Lahanu Patil, a resident of Deopur in Niphad taluka, also owns a packaging business.According to Patil, four people from Koliwada, Sion, Mumbai approached him in 2014 and assured to fetch good prices to his products in foreign companies. “They have an office at Kakad Niketan building in Sion, Koliwada, Mumbai, bearing the name Srinathji Foods Agro Pvt Ltd,” he said.Subsequently, as per the deal, Patil started sending his produce to them. Patil also took agricultural goods from other farmers from around Pimpalgaon and sent it to Srinathji Foods Agro Pvt Ltd.According to the complainant, the directors of the firm cheated him of Rs 4.61 crore. “Apart from the agricultural produce comprising onions and grapes from my farms that I used to pack and send to the Mumbai-based exporters, some other farmers in Niphad also used to send the agricultural produce for export through me,” he said.When he didn’t get the amount in return for the goods, Patil lodged a complaint with the Pimpalgaon police.Inspector Suresh Manore of Pimpalgaon police station said that initially they were taking statements of other farmers who have been cheated by the firm. “Soon a team will be sent to Mumbai to trace the concerned suspect involved in the cheating case,” he said.A large number of farmers from Nashik have reportedly got cheated recently. Last month the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city arrested a Sri Lankan resident who was wanted in a cheating case registered with the Adgaon police in August 2017.
