Nashik: Several social and youth organizations in Nashik city are gearing up to provide relief material and medicines to Kerala’s flood-affected people.Elite Social Forum, Nashik and Maratha High School Students’ Forum in Nashik have started collecting medicines to be sent to Kerala. Dr Shailendra Gaikwad of Elite Social Forum said a team of doctors carrying 20,000 boxes of antibiotic medicines will leave for Kerala on August 23.“We are in touch with Dr Matthew who is in-charge of the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) Hospital in Ernakulam. As the flood water is receding now, the need of antibiotic medicines will see multifold increase. We have planned to land in Kerala with the medicines,” Dr Gaikwad said, adding that so far 1 lakh Doxycycline Tablets, 10,000 mouth masks and 10,000 pairs of hand gloves have been collected.He said the doctor in Kerala had indicated that he needed 10,000 pairs of hand gloves and 10,000 kg bleaching powder. “We are in touch with manufacturers in Bengaluru to get the first consignment of bleaching powder,” Gaikwad said. He appealed to the people of Nashik to contribute in raising funds for medicines.“One antibiotic tablet costs a mere Rs 1. We are willing to collect 1 lakh more tablets. For this, we would appreciate donations from Nashikites,” he said. This was decided at a meeting of department heads on Monday. A senior official said employees and officers offered to contribute something for the Kerala flood relief. Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe welcomed the initiative. The donation will go to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.
