Region likely to receive heavy rain from next week during monsoon withdrawal

“In 2017 also the withdrawal had delayed and heavy rain had lashed Nashik district in the first week of October. But, this year, the monsoon withdrawal was delayed. These clouds bring rain along with thunder and lightning,” he said.Nashik generally receives rain of withdrawing monsoon during the first half of September. Many parts of Nashik district are facing acute rain deficit.

Nashik: Bringing good news to citizens, the weatherman has forecast monsoon’s withdrawal in the next few days resulting in heavy rains in north Maharashtra from September 19 onwards.“The entire Maharashtra received good rain until the end of August. But the month of September has witnessed subdued rainfall activity. All regions in state are in the below normal category. Now, all eyes are on the rains expected during the withdrawal phase of monsoon,” said R B Mankar, senior official at the weather observatory here.On Friday, the minimum temperature in the city was 18.1 degrees celsius -- 2 degrees below normal. The India Meteorological Department has forecast gradual increase in temperature by next week. This will result in developing favourable conditions for rain.Private weather forecaster Akshay Deoras said withdrawal of the monsoon was expected to start soon. “The atmospheric signatures such as upper tropospheric westerlies are clearly visible across parts of northwest India. It looks like the withdrawal process will gain momentum from September last week or could be even rapid,” he said.Nashik-based physicist Kirankumar Johare has forecast that the rain will be heavy enough to end the deficit in many tehsils of the district.“The weather conditions will result in development of cumulonimbus clouds. Such clouds form due to water vapour carried by powerful upward air currents. These clouds bring rain along with thunder and lightning,” he said.Nashik generally receives rain of withdrawing monsoon during the first half of September. This is due to the changing pattern of monsoon. Similar weather conditions are expected this year, too,” Johare said.The predicted rain is necessary for the crops as well as for the reservoirs in north Maharashtra. Many parts of Nashik district are facing acute rain deficit. Satana, Kalwan, Deola, Chandwad, Malegaon and many parts of Sinnar tehsil are still dry.
