Residents want speedbreakers near Datta Mandir signal

Datta Mandir signal junction on the Pune Road near Nashik Road has a heavy flow of traffic all through the day. Nashik: Increasing vehicular traffic and the high speed at which vehicles drive past has got residents of the Datta Mandir area on Nashik Road scared. While the road from the signal junction to Gandharwa Nagari does not any speed breaker, the same is the case with the road leading to Muktidham. Speed breakers would come as relief to pedestrians seeking to cross the roads here.Residents have decided to now meet officials of the city traffic branch of police to press for speed breakers. They have asked for speed breakers on the roads on all sides of the signal in the area.Residents say the road has no speed breakers, and the rush of traffic at high speed makes accidents likely.

The number of vehicles has increased exponentially, and motorists seem to have thrown caution to the winds.Preetam Jadhav of Prabuddha Mitra Mandal near Datta Mandir said, “Apart from the main Pune Highway, there are two roads from the junction that lead towards Gandharwa Nagari and towards the rear of Muktidham. These are roads near densely populated areas. While the road from the signal junction to Gandharwa Nagari does not any speed breaker, the same is the case with the road leading to Muktidham. All through the day and till late night motorists are found speeding. It is scary even to watch.” Some residents point out that when traffic police are not manning the area, motorists do not care even to observe the traffic signal and can be found jumping the red light.Residents say that motorists on all four sides of the junction speed up in a bid to get past it before the signal turns red. A large number of residents find crossing the road enormously risky. Speed breakers would come as relief to pedestrians seeking to cross the roads here.Residents have decided to now meet officials of the city traffic branch of police to press for speed breakers. In the past few years, several accidents have occurred in the area, some fatal.
