Power utilityrsquos first solar plant goes live

The power utility did not have to spend money on acquiring land for the project.“In Nashik district, four solar power plants at the cost of Rs 1.12 crore have been planned. Officials said the plant at Wavi has been constructed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in the premises of MSEDCL.

Nashik: The state power distribution utility made a new beginning on Sunday after successfully linking its solar energy plant at Wavi in Sinnar taluka to the electricity grid.The 0.5 megawatt solar plant at Wavi built at the cost of Rs 30.31 lakh began generating power from Sunday and became the first to be connected to the grid. Officials said the plant at Wavi has been constructed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in the premises of MSEDCL. The EESL will construct, maintain the power plants and sell the power to the utility.B K Janvir, chief engineer of MSEDCL (Nashik zone), said that there are several projects across the state to general solar power, but the project in Wavi substation has become the first to be linked to the grid. “The company targets production of 6.11 mw power from the entire solar network in Nashik zone. This network is expected to be raised in less than a year,” Janvir added.The power projects will be raised in the open premises around the MSEDCL substations across the state. The power from these projects will help the company to cut down the cost of energy. In Ahmednagar, solar power plants with a capacity to generate 3.08 mw electricity have been planned at the cost of Rs 1.65 crore,” senior officers said.The EESL is yet to conduct survey of two premises of the MSEDCL in Ahmednagar district. After the completion of the survey, the power generation through solar projects is expected to go up by about 1 mw.
