Swine flu claims one more life; toll 19 so far this year

Nashik: On Monday, the death toll from swine flu in Nashik district reached 19 this year with the death of 45-year-old Rajendra Page from Ambegaon, Dindori. Gite told the health workers that while spreading information about swine flu, it was important to not cause fear and panic. Over 28,000 people have been screened for the disease in a fortnight.Students in schools across the district will be checked for symptoms of swine flu during the morning assembly session. Pamphlets, handbills, etc about swine flu will be distributed among students.Naresh Gite said the health department workers should make household visits to check if someone was suffering from cold, cough or flu like symptoms. Parents too will be made aware about the disease.Awareness will be spread about washing hands regularly, observing etiquette while coughing and sneezing, etc.

Page was admitted to the Nashik civil hospital on Sunday at around 5 pm and passed away on Monday afternoon.Chief Executive Officer of Nashik Zilla Parishad Naresh Gite called a meeting on Sunday to instruct officials of the education department on screening of students for swine flu. Over 28,000 people have been screened for the disease in a fortnight.Students in schools across the district will be checked for symptoms of swine flu during the morning assembly session. Those suffering from body pain, throat pain, headache, vomiting, loose motions will be checked. Such students should be immediately sent to hospital and instructed to stay home for the next seven days, to avoid contact with others and reduce risk of spread of the disease. Parents too will be made aware about the disease.Awareness will be spread about washing hands regularly, observing etiquette while coughing and sneezing, etc. Premises of schools, ashramshalas and hostels, should be kept clean given and staff of these should be instructed to get their health check-up done regularly. Pamphlets, handbills, etc about swine flu will be distributed among students.Naresh Gite said the health department workers should make household visits to check if someone was suffering from cold, cough or flu like symptoms. Such patients should be immediately referred to hospitals for further treatment.Health workers will ensure that there is sufficient stock of medicine for swine flu in drug stores and make visits to private hospitals to find out if anyone was taking treatment for the disease. Gite told the health workers that while spreading information about swine flu, it was important to not cause fear and panic.
