Nashik: Another farmer committed suicide in a village in Nashik taluka three days ago, taking the total number of such cases to 71 in the district so far this year.The farmer, Laakhan Dattu Dive (25), a resident of Dugaon village, was found hanging from the ceiling at his residence on Friday, sources from the district administration said.The primary report was presented to the administration on Monday, said an official, adding that Dive did not own any land but his family owns a farm.“The primary information says there is loan but there is nothing to prove it. We have requested the family members of the deceased to help us with the investigation at the earliest because it is too early to approach them for information now,” said the official.The district administration has sought a medical report on the cause of death and also the police investigation report. The cooperative department will also file its about the loan structure.A committee headed by the district collector will be meeting this week to decide on 10 cases of farmer suicide whose reports from the respective departments have been received. “The district collector will review the reports presented by the concerned departments, based on which it will be decided whether the kin of the deceased deserve government aid,” the officer said.“If the committee approves the government aid, the kin will get Rs 30,000 in cash and Rs 70,000 in fixed deposit. That is further decided by the respective banks,” the officer said.So far this year, Niphad taluka is the worst hit by farmer’s suicide as the number has reached 12, Malegaon has registered 11 deaths and Nashik taluka has recorded four farmer suicides.
