Nashik: The price of petrol touched a new all-time high, Rs 89.97 per litre, on Tuesday, while diesel was being sold at Rs 77.63 per litre.Petrol is expected to cross the Rs 90-mark on Wednesday. Earlier, I would spend Rs 2,000 per month on fuel, but my monthly budget has increased to Rs 3,500 per month. In the past three years, the petrol rates have increased by 33% to Rs 89.97 per litre, while diesel prices have increased by 51% to Rs 77.63 per litre.“This is really a matter of grave concern that fuel prices have shot up and are at the all-time high now. The diesel prices have increased by almost 50% in the past three years and this have led rise in prices of tractor-mounted machineries. Fuel prices are related to inflation and rise in fuel prices means rise in inflation,” Amol Kulkarni, a private employee, said.“My monthly budget has increased a lot in the past two years.

Nashik: The price of petrol touched a new all-time high, Rs 89.97 per litre, on Tuesday, while diesel was being sold at Rs 77.63 per litre.Petrol is expected to cross the Rs 90-mark on Wednesday. The fuel prices started rising from the first week of this month and continued to rise with an average hike of 20-30 paisa every day.Industries have urged the government either withdraw the taxes by both Centre and state government or bring fuel immediately under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).In September 2015, the petrol was being sold at Rs 67.64 per litre while diesel was at Rs 51.40 per litre. In the past three years, the petrol rates have increased by 33% to Rs 89.97 per litre, while diesel prices have increased by 51% to Rs 77.63 per litre.“This is really a matter of grave concern that fuel prices have shot up and are at the all-time high now. It is also surprising that the government is also not taking steps to control it. Fuel prices are related to inflation and rise in fuel prices means rise in inflation,” Amol Kulkarni, a private employee, said.“My monthly budget has increased a lot in the past two years. Earlier, I would spend Rs 2,000 per month on fuel, but my monthly budget has increased to Rs 3,500 per month. I have also reduced the use of vehicle wherever possible,” city resident Swapnil Patil said.“The major impact of fuel price hike is on farmers. The diesel prices have increased by almost 50% in the past three years and this have led rise in prices of tractor-mounted machineries. But the prices of agricultural crops like tomatoes, onions have crashed. The cost of production increased, but the income of farmers did not,” Khandu Shevale, a farmer, said.“Hence, the government needs to give subsidy for diesel to farmers so that farmers do not suffer due to the hike,” he added.
