‘Must give Rs 12 lakh to corporators’

Nashik: Mayor Ranjana Bhansi on Wednesday directed the civic administration to allot Rs 12 lakh as ward development fund to corporators as it was their right.The ward development funds has been a raging issue in the civic body for the past few months with commissioner Tukaram Mundhe emphasising on need-based works.During the general body meeting, members of the house complained that they were unable to do any work in their wards.“The commissioner said that as per the budget 2% fund would be given to the corporators. I want to know if each corporator will get Rs 12 lakh. The commissioner always tells there is no fund,” said leader of the house Dinkar Patil .Mundhe said, as per the government directives Rs 2 lakh has to be given for each work to each corporator.But corporators said if they were entitled to get Rs 12 lakh as ward development fund then they should get the complete amount.Bhansi said, “Ward development fund is the right of the corporators. They need the funds to do projects in their wards. Corporators should get Rs 12 lakh immediately. Corporators should prepare a file of their projects and the administration should prepare the estimate. I will visit every ward and see what is needed.”She also ordered officials to attend phone calls from elected representatives or call back if they were in a meeting or else she would raise the issue in the meeting.
