Nashik: Ram Kund on the Godavari ghat, an auspicious place to perform Pind Daan, a Hindu ritual to bring salvation to departed souls, saw some unusual visitors on Sunday morning.More than 100 men of the Vastav Foundation, an NGO working for men’s rights, performed Pind Daan of their wives, who they claimed had levelled false allegations against them. Members from across the state were in the city to perform the ritual, usually carried out in memory of dead relatives during the ongoing fortnight of ‘Pitru Paksha’.Amit Deshpande, a senior member of the Vastav Foundation told TOI that the exercise had been carried out to officially end the relationships forever. “This is a symbolic act to help men and is not directed against anyone,” he said.“Pind Daan is performed for ancestors and relatives who are no longer alive or believed to be dead. We have a number of members who are separated or divorced from their wives. Legal delays have prevented many from getting formally separated. This ritual will help them emotionally accept the fact that their relationships are over,” Deshpande said.Coordinator of the group, Chandan Samant, said the members had also performed the last rites of “toxic feminism”. “We want an end to feminism which pushes for female dominance. We want equality,” he said. The members were assisted by specialist priests in Nashik.
