150 lose lives on city roads in 424 accidents till Sept

Among the 150 people who died in accidents this year till September, 42 were pedestrians.The maximum number of victims of road accidents have been two-wheeler riders. Nashik: The city roads have become scary with the rise in the number of accidents taking place. Police have also been conducted mega drives against the two-wheeler for not following the traffic rules.Police said that most of the two-wheeler riders meeting accidents die due to head injuries. This year during the same period, the accidents have risen to 424.The people who lost their lives also include pedestrians and bystanders. According to police records, last year from January 1 to September 31, there were a total of 374 accidents.

Nashik: The city roads have become scary with the rise in the number of accidents taking place. The number of casualties due to these mishaps is also soaring. The three quarters of this year have seen as many as 424 road accidents, in which 150 people lost their lives, 224 suffered serious injuries and 55 escaping with minor wounds.Last year, the city had seen a considerable dip in the number of road accidents as compared to previous year.As per the police records, in 2016, Nashik witnessed 1,031 road accidents, which dropped to 631 in 2017 indicating a drop of 38.80 percent.Meanwhile, the first three quarters of the current year have witnesses 13.36 percent increase in the number of road accidents than the last year. According to police records, last year from January 1 to September 31, there were a total of 374 accidents. This year during the same period, the accidents have risen to 424.The people who lost their lives also include pedestrians and bystanders. This year 89 people riding two-wheelers died in the first three quarters, which is 41 percent greater than the number of bikers who died last year during the corresponding period. Last year from January 1 to September 30, 63 two-wheeler riders had died.Police are conducting continuous drives to spread awareness among citizens about the use of helmets while riding bikes or scooters. Police have also been conducted mega drives against the two-wheeler for not following the traffic rules.Police said that most of the two-wheeler riders meeting accidents die due to head injuries. “We want to spread awareness among the citizens. Over the past two years, a large number of awareness drives have been conducted by the police and social organisations to put across the importance of wearing helmets.Police said, “Though there is a huge different between number of bikers wearing helmets a couple of years ago and now, still many people take the appeals lightly.”
