Three arrested for trying to sell fake gold in Adgaon

According to the police, the suspects had approached a 25-year-old man, a resident of Tapovan, who was sitting on the banks of Panchavati on October 10. The conmen initiated a dialogue with the complainant and subsequently told him that they had found a huge stock of gold when they were digging land during construction of their house.The conmen told the youth that they wanted to get rid of the gold even if they had to dispose that off at a lower price. When the complainant asked them to show the gold, they just showed him one single bead and kept the remaining material wrapped in a cloth,” a police officer said.“The complainant then asked them to show the entire gold and also to reduce the price to Rs 15,000 for every 10 gram of gold,” he added.Bijli said the conmen settled for Rs 15,000 for every 10 gram and it was decided that they would come with the gold on Friday at Navvha Maeel on the Mumbai-Agra highway, falling in the jurisdiction of Adgaon.The youth contacted his friend Dashrath Pagi, a constable with Adgaon police. Pagi brought the matter to the notice of Bijli after which a trap was laid and they were arrested.
