Nashik: The district-level philately exhibition organised by the Nashik division of India Post to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi has a special collection of stamps and covers featuring Gandhiji. First-hand information about various schemes, services, and facilities of that India Post offers is available at the venue.“Apart from the stamps and covers from different times, we have reproductions of some letters written by Mahatma Gandhi. Shobha Madhale, Post Master General, Navi Mumbai region, will release this cover which has a picture of Brahmagiri Hills at Trimbakeshwar. Those who are interested in publishing their ‘My Stamp’ even have an instant ‘selfie point’ at the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open from 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday for visitors.

What students of history would find especially interesting are reproductions of letters that Gandhi wrote, which too are on display.Nashik MP Hemant Godse, Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal and Post Master General of Navi Mumbai Region Shobha Madhale formally inaugurated the exhibition on Saturday at the newly renovated Mahatma Phule Art Gallery. This is the first exhibition to be housed at the gallery since it reopened after renovation in August this year.Besides thousands of postal stamps from rare collections of noted philatelists, it features separate counters to open free and paperless Postal Payment Bank account. Those who are interested in publishing their ‘My Stamp’ even have an instant ‘selfie point’ at the exhibition. First-hand information about various schemes, services, and facilities of that India Post offers is available at the venue.“Apart from the stamps and covers from different times, we have reproductions of some letters written by Mahatma Gandhi. Young philatelists from across the district have kept their collection on display and entered the competition. Veterans in the field have brought their valuable treasures for display,” said PJ Kakhandki, superintendent of the Nashik division of India Post.Several events were held on the inaugural day of the exhibition. A commemorative special cover (envelope) was released to mark the 45th death anniversary (Samadhi Diwas) of Jain Muni Sudharmasagarji Maharaj who hailed from the Digambar Jain religious centre ‘Gajpantha’ in Nashik.Stamp on Godavari’sorigin in Brahmagiri HillsA special postal cover ‘Brahmagiri Hills – birthplace of river Godavari’– will be released on October 21 at 10 am. Shobha Madhale, Post Master General, Navi Mumbai region, will release this cover which has a picture of Brahmagiri Hills at Trimbakeshwar. Senior philatelists will conduct a workshop for the juniors from 11 am to 3 pm. The exhibition will remain open from 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday for visitors. Entry is free for all.
