8-member gang arrested, 30 mobile phones seized

Nashik: The city police on Saturday claimed to have busted an eight-member gang, including two juveniles, allegedly involved in robbing people of their mobile phones. A total of 30 mobile phones worth Rs 4.5 lakh were recovered from the suspects.Seven of the suspects hail from Sahebganj district in Jharkhand while another is a resident of Phulenagar area at Panchavati in old city here. Some of the suspects would move close to the victim while one of them snatched the phone and run away.“The gang robbed a person of his mobile phone in the Saraf Bazaar area on Thursday. A police team went to Shirdi and recovered the remaining mobiles from their room.”Singal has appealed to the citizens to contact police if they were robbed of their mobile phones in the recent past along with purchase receipts. While investigating the case, we received a tip-off about two juveniles standing staying at the dharmashala near Kapaleshwar temple.

A local court has remanded six of the gang in police custody till October 22 while the two juveniles were sent to an observation home.“The seven members of the gang, including the two juveniles, came to Nashik city recently. The suspect from the city guided them about the locations to commit the crime,” police commissioner Ravinder Singal told reporters.Explaining about the modus operandi of the gang, the police chief said they looked for unsuspecting people engaged in talking on the phone while walking on the road. Some of the suspects would move close to the victim while one of them snatched the phone and run away.“The gang robbed a person of his mobile phone in the Saraf Bazaar area on Thursday. While investigating the case, we received a tip-off about two juveniles standing staying at the dharmashala near Kapaleshwar temple. During questioning, the duo spilled the beans about the other six members of the gang. Police also recovered a few stolen cellphones from the bags of the juveniles,” said Singal.The officer said that the gang had rented a room in the temple town of Shirdi in neighbouring Ahmednagar district.“After snatching the phones from people, they would travel to Shirdi and keep the booty in their room. They had plans to sell them off at Sahebganj after collecting substantial number of mobiles. A police team went to Shirdi and recovered the remaining mobiles from their room.”Singal has appealed to the citizens to contact police if they were robbed of their mobile phones in the recent past along with purchase receipts.
