Nashik: The Combat Army Aviation School (CATS) at Gandhi Nagar Airfield organised a passing out parade on Saturday where 43 army officers were awarded the Army Aviation Flying Badges.These officers were awarded the ‘Aviation Wings’ to become Combat Helicopter Pilots after successfully completing the Combat Aviators Course Serial-30. In addition to this, two officers from the Army and one officer from the Navy were awarded the ‘Aviation Instructor Badge’ for successfully completing the Aviation Helicopter Instructor Course Serial-29.Brigadier Sarabjit Singh Bawa Bhalla, Commandant of Combat Army Aviation Training School, presided over the ceremony.Army officers, civil dignitaries, and officers of all ranks from Nashik Road and Deolali Military Stations were also present.The ‘Silver Cheetah’ trophy was awarded to Captain Keshav Singh for emerging first in the order of merit. Major Pradeep Agarwal Memorial Trophy’ in the overall order of merit in Aviation Helicopter Instructors Course was won by Major Meghan Ramdas Joglekar.Like every year, a parade and demonstration by helicopters also marked the occasion. The ceremony was marked by an integrated training exercise by the mainstay helicopters of army aviation — The Cheetah, Chetak and Dhruv helicopters.The helicopters demonstrated STIE (Small Team Insertion and Extrication), slithering, induction of weapon and equipment load, winching and rescue operations. They also gave a glimpse of the daring and challenging tasks undertaken by the brave helicopter pilots of the Army Aviation Corps.The Army Aviation Corps has completed 32 years on November 1 this year. It is undeniably a formidable force multiplier, a key combat enabler and a vital fighting arm of the Indian Army.
