Kharif onion supply begins at Lasalgaon APMC

Around 6,000 quintals of summer onions were auctioned at Lasalgaon.On the contrary, new kharif onions fetched good rates as comparatively. It will take around a month for regular supply of new kharif onions, said sources from APMC.Presently, onions arriving in the market are of summer crop, harvested in March-April. The remaining were of summer crop, which is six months old. The minimum and maximum wholesale prices of new kharif crops were recorded at Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,800 per quintal, respectively. The APMC reopened after 10 days of Diwali vacation on Monday.Usually, the kharif onions start arriving in mid-October, but the crop was delayed by a month due to late and inadequate rain.

Nashik: The new kharif onion began arriving at the Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) on Monday, albeit in low quantity, and fetched good rates as compared to the old summer crop.Of the total 6,000 quintals of onions, the new kharif crop was only 50 quintals. The remaining were of summer crop, which is six months old. The APMC reopened after 10 days of Diwali vacation on Monday.Usually, the kharif onions start arriving in mid-October, but the crop was delayed by a month due to late and inadequate rain. Although the supply has started, it is less than one percent of the total arrival. It will take around a month for regular supply of new kharif onions, said sources from APMC.Presently, onions arriving in the market are of summer crop, harvested in March-April. The quality of the produce has deteriorated as its shelf life is about to get over. Summer onions are fetching poor rates due to poor quality.Summer onions fetched average wholesale price of Rs 790 per quintal on Monday while minimum and maximum wholesale prices of the produce were recorded at Rs 500 and Rs 1,225 per quintal respectively. Around 6,000 quintals of summer onions were auctioned at Lasalgaon.On the contrary, new kharif onions fetched good rates as comparatively. The average wholesale onion price of the onions was recorded at Rs 1,551 per quintal. The minimum and maximum wholesale prices of new kharif crops were recorded at Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,800 per quintal, respectively. Around 50 quintals of onions were auctioned off.
