NASHIK: The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) has almost cleared 70% of its onion buffer stock while the remaining 30% is to be cleared by month-end. The procurement agency will dispatch 3,000 tonne of onions to Delhi by November-end.The agency had procured 13,000 tonne of onion from farmers during April-May on behalf of the Centre in a bid to stabilise onion prices in the market considering the possibility of scarcity and increase of rates during the period from July to September.Of the total buffer stock, around 8,000 tonne have been stored in five locations in Nashik district - Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon, Kalwan , Umrane and Sinnar . The remaining 5,000 tonne have been stored at other five locations in Ahmednagar and Pune districts."We have already dispatched most of the stock of onions to Delhi, while some of the stock has been dispatched to Bhubaneshwar. We will dispatch the remaining stock of 3,000 tonne of onions to Delhi by November-end. Onions are being sent to Mother Dairy in the national capital," a Nafed official said.
