NASHIK: Bhadrakali police booked a couple from Ganjamal on the charges of assaulting the driver of an MSRTC bus in the Shalimar are on Wednesday night.The driver, Yogesh Jagtap, belonging to a scheduled tribe, was allegedly beaten up by the man but his wife has also been booked for egging her husband on, said police on Friday.According to police, the complainant was driving the bus towards Nashik Road when the couple waiting for the bus asked him to bring the vehicle a little closer to them. There was no space for the driver to manoeuvre the bus, because of which he could not heed the request.Furious, the man picked a stone and flung it on the bus, shattering its windshield. Later, as his wife egged him on, the man allegedly slapped and pushed the driver besides issuing threats.The bus driver lodged a complaint with Bhadrakali police early on Thursday morning.Police booked the couple under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty), 294 (obscene act in public place), 109 (abetting a crime) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Shalimar junction has been encroached upon on both sides, as people have put up several stalls in the area leaving very little space for buses of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation This is not the first time bus drivers have been heckled or beaten up. Such incidents have been reported in the past too.
