NASHIK: Nashik police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Ganeshnagar, Indiranagar for allegedly strangulating his 68-year-old mother to death at their residence on Wednesday evening after a spat over his unemployment.The suspect, identified as Alauddin Kamruddin Shaikh , was arrested from the spot soon after the incident. According to the police, Alauddin was alone with his mother, Rukhsana Kamroddin Shaikh, between 4.30pm and 7.30pm of Wednesday when he attacked her in a fit of rage.The mother-son duo had an argument over Alauddin not doing any work for the past few days. Angry with his mother, Alauddin allegedly choked her to death. Then, he removed her clothes and tied her hands and legs with a rope and covered her mouth with a piece of cloth and wrapped her body in a blanket.Assistant inspector N N Mohite of the Indiranagar police station, who is investigating the case, said that Alauddin was apparently proceeding to bury his mother's body to wipe out any evidence of the murder when his relative came over unannounced. Alauddin's relative Nasir Bashir Shaikh, who resides nearby, came to their house to park his pick-up vehicle."When Nasir went to Alauddin's house to give the keys of his pick-up vehicle, the latter started fumbling. Nasir got suspicious and went inside the house. He was shocked to see Rukhsana's body wrapped in a blanket. Nasir immediately called Alauddin's brother Chiraguddin, who had gone to drop his wife at a bus stop in the area," said Mohite.Chiraguddin had left the house along with his wife at around 4.30 pm. While Nasir came to Alauddin's house it was 7.30 pm. Alauddin's wife had gone to her parents residence in Thane district for the past four days.A driver by profession, Alauddin took up temporary work. Over the past few weeks, he was not going out to work. This sparked an argument between him and his mother.Chiraguddin rushed home and called up the police, after which, the suspect was arrested from his residence. A case has been registered against him under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of the offence) of theIPC.
