Completing the recent Ironman race held in Malaysia was nothing short of a feat for Chetan Agnihotri, a working professional from the city. However, he is an occasional swimmer and had to prepare on that front for the triathlon that Ironman is. Nashik police commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singhal completed the race in August and Amar Miyaji had done so in 2017.Speaking to us after completing the race, Chetan shared that he is now planning to guide other fitness enthusiasts from the city for the race. At the beginning of the year, Chetan would’ve never imagined achieving this because he was struggling with a ligament injury and plantar fasciitis. However, his will power and support from family and friends went a long way in helping him.

But I think whoever thinks of participating in it definitely should, because completing it boosts your confidence and tells you that anything is possible with determination,” he said. The journey after his injury wasn’t easy for Chetan. He shared, “My physiotherapist told me to stop thinking about participating in any competition, but I had made up my mind and started working towards it. I prepared for six months.”Being a regular cyclist, the Nashikite has covered long distance cycling routes and has participated in some marathons as well. However, he is an occasional swimmer and had to prepare on that front for the triathlon that Ironman is. “Kaustubh Radkar, Amol Dev and Ranjit Shrotriya guided me in swimming. They literally used to throw me in the water during practice. More than four hours of practice in the morning followed by floor exercises in the evening helped me achieve this feat,” Chetan said.Going ahead, Chetan plans to participate in more such events. He said, “Though my immediate goal is the Mumbai marathon , I will be preparing for the other Ironman races which are held at six different destinations.”My family and friends helped me not just mentally but financially as well. So, they are the true achievers here. I am just the face of their achievement.-
