NASHIK: The district collector, Radhakrishnan B, has asked the food and drug administration and the concerned to take immediate steps to arrest the growth and spread of the drug alprazolam among the youth in Malegaon in particular and district on the whole.“The youth is getting under the stride of the drug which is used as medicine and they are getting into substance abuse. With the consumption of alprazolam, the body of the person grows numb and induces drowsiness.The matter came to light when Dindori MLA Narhari Zhirwal, first presented the information to food and civic supply minister Girish Bapat , during his tour of Nashik on October 12.The issue has since been grabbing attention of the various government agencies. We conducted meetings with the concerned officials and departments and are sure the menace will be in control sooner than later,” District Collector Radharkishnan B said.The medicine is being used by the youth rampantly.The abuse of medicines is not a new thing as there have been reports about cough syrup being used by the people very often.
