45,000 onion farmers apply for ex-gratia

"We have directed all district APMCs to collect applications from the farmers seeking ex-gratia. NASHIK: Around 45,000 onion farmers from Nashik district have so far applied to different Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) to get the ex-gratia of Rs 200 per quintal announced by the state government.The office of deputy district registrar, cooperatives, has given a deadline of January 15 for the APMCs to submit the details about the farmers. It is aimed at giving some relief to farmers who have suffered due to crash in wholesale prices of summer onions in last two months. Around 45,000 farmers have so far submitted their applications to the APMCs so far," said the DDR Gautam Bansane, adding that they would scrutinise all the applications and send the demand of funds to the Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board. The office will scrutinise the applications and then send its demand to the state government about the amount needed in Nashik to pay the farmers.The ex-gratia will be given to onion growers who sold their produce in different APMCs between November 1 and December 15.
