SPPU issues notices to colleges for delay in scholarship process

Despite regular reminders and workshops held on this issue, many colleges are yet to complete this process. Looking at the strength of students in these colleges, more than 5,000 must be awaiting scholarships. As per the direct benefit transfer (DBT) policy, the amount gets transferred directly into the accounts of the students. But, the management of these colleges consider this as a technical issue. Even the state government has expressed disappointment over this.

Nashik: The admission department of Savitribai Phule Pune University has issued notices to as many as 22 colleges in the city for delaying the course registration process — mandatory for official sanction of scholarships for students.The university has asked the principals, section heads and clerks dealing with scholarship-related works in these colleges to report at SPPU headquarters on January 14.“Colleges need to get course approval in order to authenticate the scholarship applications submitted by the students online on the DBT portal. Despite regular reminders and workshops held on this issue, many colleges are yet to complete this process. Even the state government has expressed disappointment over this. So, colleges are directed to complete the process immediately,” a notice issued by SPPU deputy registrar said.The notice has names of 97 colleges from Pune, 22 from Nashik and 32 from Ahmednagar.According to a senior official from the admission department, thousands of students may miss getting scholarships if the colleges continue with this lethargic approach.“These scholarships are disbursed through the social welfare department as well as higher education department. As per the direct benefit transfer (DBT) policy, the amount gets transferred directly into the accounts of the students. However, if colleges fail to register their courses, the online applications of students will automatically get rejected,” the official said.According to him, the SPPU decided to serve the notices and organize special orientation workshop on January 14 after receiving a correspondence in this regard from the state government.The 22 colleges in Nashik named in this list are prominent institutions. Looking at the strength of students in these colleges, more than 5,000 must be awaiting scholarships. But, the management of these colleges consider this as a technical issue.
