Jr college lecturers intensify protest to press for demands

Nashik: HSC examinations are just about a month away, and junior college lecturers the in city have stepped up their protest. Exams begin from February 21.“In 2018, junior college lecturers refused to evaluate answer papers of HSC students. A delegation of college teachers on Saturday met government officials of the revenue and education departments to submit a memorandum of demands. If their demands are not met, they will refrain from working and taking up examination-related duties during the Class XII exam starting in February.“Every year junior college lecturers stage agitations and start a non-cooperation movement during HSC examinations. We are left with no alternative but to intensify our protest,” Shinde said.

Nashik: HSC examinations are just about a month away, and junior college lecturers the in city have stepped up their protest. A delegation of college teachers on Saturday met government officials of the revenue and education departments to submit a memorandum of demands. The teachers have a list of 33 demands that they say have been pending for 16 years.Teachers said they hold sit-in from January 14 at all tehsil headquarters in the district. On January 18, their dharna will be in front of the office of the district collector. If their demands are not met, they will refrain from working and taking up examination-related duties during the Class XII exam starting in February.“Every year junior college lecturers stage agitations and start a non-cooperation movement during HSC examinations. Every time, the government assures us that matters will be resolved and we resume work. The next academic session starts, and nothing is done. This year, we are more systematic and have charted out a calendar of protest action,” Sanjay Shinde, president of Nashik District Junior College Teachers’ Association, said.On January 30, the teachers have decided on a silent march to the office of divisional deputy director (education), Nashik. If matters remain unresolved even then, no examination-related work will be undertaken. Exams begin from February 21.“In 2018, junior college lecturers refused to evaluate answer papers of HSC students. At that time, state education minister Vinod Tawde accepted 24 of the 33 demands. The education department however failed to implement directives issued by the minister. We followed up regularly and were told the issues would be resolved by December 31, 2018. We are left with no alternative but to intensify our protest,” Shinde said.
