State panel seeks awareness on Minimum Wages Act

NASHIK: The state panel on minimum wages on Tuesday said steps would be taken for effective implementation of the Minimum Wages Act . But revision of minimum wages of 21 sectors is still pending,” he said.“We are planning to complete revision of minimum wages of the remaining sectors within the next few months,” he said. I wanted to know what they want in the ecosystem and understand the minimum wages, industrial scenario, how much workers get after working for eight hours,” Kuchik said.Kuchik, who took over as chairman of the state panel on minimum wages said, “There are a total of 68 scheduled sectors under the minimum wages act. It said effective publicity should be given to the act, so that workers are better aware of the minimum wages they are entitled to, under law.The panel was re-constituted by the state government last year. The minimum wages of 47 of these sectors have been revised.

It said effective publicity should be given to the act, so that workers are better aware of the minimum wages they are entitled to, under law.The panel was re-constituted by the state government last year. Its chairman Raghunath Kuchik was in Nashik on Tuesday to interact with different stakeholders. He held talks with office bearers of different industrial associations and workers’ unions.“I was here in Nashik to interact with different stakeholders. I wanted to know what they want in the ecosystem and understand the minimum wages, industrial scenario, how much workers get after working for eight hours,” Kuchik said.Kuchik, who took over as chairman of the state panel on minimum wages said, “There are a total of 68 scheduled sectors under the minimum wages act. The minimum wages of 47 of these sectors have been revised. But revision of minimum wages of 21 sectors is still pending,” he said.“We are planning to complete revision of minimum wages of the remaining sectors within the next few months,” he said. These 21 sectors include hospitals, bidi workers, watches, cotton ginning units, dairy firms, shops and commercial establishments, paper manufacturing units, chemical fertilisers etc.We are soon giving some recommendations to the state government for making some amendments in the minimum wages act. There is no proper implementation of this act, which should be implemented immediately. The time-frame should be given for its implementation after a notification is issued.
