Milind Soman launches Pinkathon in Nashik

NASHIK: Actor, model, fitness enthusiast, barefoot runner and founder of Pinkathon - a running event for women, Milind Soman was in the city on Wednesday to launch the event that will be held in March.Free medical check up and mammography for women above 45 years, menstruation awareness stall, baby bearing runners, special children, cancer survivors and many more mascots will be leading various categories of the run.The actor came on a bicycle from Mumbai and announced the maiden event in a press conference. The event to be held on March 17 from Thakker’s Dome is presented by Sarabha and supported by Nashik Stallions. For promotional event, Fearless Run of 5 km will be organised on March 1 (midnight) when Milind will be present for the run.Asia’s youngest Iron Man , Ravija Singal is the event ambassador, cancer survivor and Mrs Global United Lifetime Queen (an event for cancer survivors) Dr Namita Kohok who will be the mascot for 10 k run, Baby Wearing Mother Ashwini Patil who will be mascot for 5 k run and special child Shruti Rajguru who will be mascot for 3 km run shared their opinions and experience.“The event will officially be called Nashik Going Pink. We started the event in 2012 and the journey has been incredible. Initially the response was women don’t run as they do not have the time and are not interested. The focus of Nashik Going Pink is to promote active lifestyle among women and to create awareness about breast cancer ,” Milind said.He informed that if a participant had already done mammography it could be transferred to some other woman as the test was expensive.About the specialty of the medal he said, “It is called Tsunamika as women displaced due to Tsunami began earning their livelihood by making dolls in Auroville . Everything is possible if you believe in yourself.”He also wants to shatter the belief that new mothers should stay home for first 2-3 years.“In ancient days, new mothers used to wear the baby on the back and carry out regular work. It strengthens mother-child bond, makes baby balanced and strong and encourages breast feeding,” he explained.
