The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to outsource cleaning of Godavari river.It is in the process of appointing a contractor to undertake cleaning of the river. Initially, the private agency would be given the contract for one year. The contractor will clean the nine-km stretch of the river between Anandvalli weir and Dasak-Panchak.“The civic administration has already finalised a contractor through the tender process and work order will be issued after the approval of the standing committee of NMC,” sources said.Earlier, the NMC had entrusted the task of cleaning this stretch to four contractors. The civic administration had divided the stretch into four parts-- Anandvalli weir to Chopda bridge, Chopda bridge to Holkar bridge, Holkar bridge to Kapila-Godavari Sangam and fourth part from Kapila Sangam to Dasak-Panchak. Later, the administration removed all the four contractors.“The current contractor has been identified through the bidding process. We had received three bids for the river cleaning operation. We have finalised the contractor, who quoted the lowest rate,” NMC officials said, adding that since cleaning of the river is priority for the civic body, the contractor ready to deploy adequate staff has been appointed. tnn
